INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE - ANALYSIS OF INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE OF SATRIA NEO 1.6 USING NUMERICAL METHODS (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION)

An engine is defined as the machine that converts the chemical energy liberated
through combustion of a certain fuel, into a mechanical energy that is used to
derive a certain vehicle. The definition highlights two important facts about
the engines. First, an engine is a machine, hence a mechanism exists. This
mechanism can vary, and thus we can have more than one mechanism of operation.
The second point in the definition is the conversion of chemical energy that
results from combustion of a certain fuel. Based on the type of the fuel and the
method of conversion of chemical energy to mechanical energy, one can
distinguish two main types of engines, which are Diesel engine and Gasoline
engines. The first engine is based on a thermodynamic cycle called Diesel cycle,
while the second is based on a cycle called Otto cycle. Due to the difference in
the thermodynamic cycle that is used to burn the used fuel, a certain fuel was
selected to suit the process. In Otto cycle engines, gasoline (known as benzene)
is the fuel. In Diesel cycle engine engines, diesel oil (known as solar) is the
fuel.

Thermodynamics part will take part on the studies of the internal combustion
engine of a car system. There are two  famous fundamental thermodynamics laws,
namely The First Law of Thermodynamics and The Second Law of Thermodynamics.
Both will be applied intensively throughout this project.

On Machine component design, the stresses exerted on shaft, gear, and clutch
system that result from the loads are going to be analyse. Analyse also the
fatique strength of the shaft, gear, and clutch system by plotted the S-N curve.
Then an appropriate safety factor should be estimated to provide the required
safety and realibility. Both shear and moment diagram are drawn in order to
determine the maximum bending moment. Last but not least, give recommendation
for improvement in order to avoid from any failure occur.

For Dynamic Systems, the thermodynamics modeling need to be find out by relating
with the thermodynamic analysis. Mathematical modeling is the process through
which the dynamic response of the system is obtained. Mathematical modeling
leads to development of mathematical equations that describe the behavior of the
system which is governed by a differential equation, an integral equation, an
integrodifferential equation, or a set of differential equations in which time
is the independent variable. Finding out the crank slider mechanism and the
dynamic load are also needed. Dynamic load is the total of kinetic energy of
conventional mechanism is equal to the sum of kinetic energy (crank + connecting
rod + piston).
